I like sweet potatoes and I like gnocchi, so I had high hopes. Unfortunately, this sweet potato gnocchi is lacking in taste, texture and appearance.
The gnocchi is in a butter and sage sauce. Sage typically has a strong and distinct flavor, but it was barely noticeable in this dish. I added lots of sea salt and fresh ground black pepper and there still wasn’t much flavor.
However, the bigger issue is the gnocchi which have a very gummy and sticky texture. In addition, these look nothing like real gnocchi which usually have pinched ends. Instead these are about the size and shape of a tater tot which isn’t very appealing.
I tried to convince myself that this sweet potato gnocchi might have potential as a Thanksgiving side dish, but decided that there are so many other dishes I’d rather have.
Note that this product contains cheese that contains animal rennet so not truly vegetarian.
