Kid-Friendly means different things with different children. Ideally, children eat and like the same foods as the adults in the household. However, this isn’t always the case.
A lot of children just don’t like some common ingredients, such as onions, peppers, mushrooms or tomatoes. Children also tend to prefer blander and sweeter food than adults.
Plus, there’s the quandary of snacks and lunches for children. Item’s that aren’t fragile, don’t require refrigeration, are an appropriate serving size, are easy to open and eat, and won’t be given or thrown away. Trader Joe’s carries a variety of kid-friendly snacks, including applesauce cups, peanut butter crackers, string cheese, yogurt tubes and juice boxes.
Whether or not your child is a finicky eater, you’ll inevitably have situations where you’ll need to serve kid-friendly foods, such as a birthday party or school potluck. Macaroni and Cheese, cheese pizza, chickenless nuggets, french fries and other TJ’s fare can fit the bill.
If teenage sons are in your future, you’ll find yourself looking for ways to bulk up your typical family foods to satisfy growing appetites. This may mean more starches and proteins that you’d normally prepare. Take my word for it – it’s very difficult to convince a teenage boy that a salad is a dinner entree regardless of how big or hearty that salad is!
