Fruits make great snacks, smoothies, desserts and even salad toppings. Take your choice of fresh, frozen, canned and pre-prepared fruits at Trader Joe’s.
Start in the produce section where you can buy all the usual choices, plus a few cut fruit options. These include pineapple spears, mango slices and a tropical medley that is mostly pineapple with a couples slices each of mango and papaya.
The fresh fruit selection varies by location and season. Look for a nice selection of berries and stone fruits (peaches, apricots, plums) in the summer months followed by more apples and oranges in the cooler months. Enjoy seasonal fruit for breakfast over cereal or oatmeal or layered with granola and yogurt for a parfait.
Organic fruit options are limited, but usually include bananas, apples, lemons and occasionally berries.
The frozen case contains some single fruit options (strawberries, pineapple and mango), plus some fruit blends that are great for smoothies.
Canned fruit isn’t very appealing and apparently Trader Joe’s realizes this because their selection is limited. Although there is a large selection of applesauce packaged for kids’ lunches.
Trader Joe’s carries a freakishly large selection of dried fruits, including some with interesting preparations such as the chili mango strips.
