Trader Joe’s Baked Falafel Salad Palette consist of falafel cubes, feta cheese, tomato, cucumber, and red onion on a bed of romaine lettuce and kale with yogurt-hummus dressing. This is a filling salad but the flavors and textures don’t quite work. The heavy toppings flatten the lettuce and cause it to become limp and sometimes brown which isn’t appealing.
Not surprisingly the baked falafel cubes lack the appearance and crispy exterior of traditional fried falafel and aren’t pleasant to eat cold. Removing the falafel from the salad and warming them improves the flavor and texture a bit.
There is a lot of feta cheese, almost too much. The dressing has a good flavor but when combined with the cheese creates a heavy, pasty texture that’s not what I look for in a salad. Trader Joe’s Classic Greek Salad is a lighter, fresher option.
This package is considered 3 servings which would be skimpy and only work as a small side dish. Conversely the entire salad is a lot for one person – a very filling lunch.
I’m giving this salad 2 out of 4 pineapples. If you’ve tried this salad, what did you think?
